Icemaker may be a free standing icemaker or an icemaker inside the freezer section of refrigerator. There is a shutoff arm to make icemaker off when the ice bucket is taken out or making repair of the icemaker. An inlet tube delivers water to an ice cube mold of the ice machine. The water in the mold freezes to ice and takes the shape of the mold. After sensing freezing temperature the heater starts and loosens the surface of the ice cube. The ejector then pushes the ice cube in the outside ice bucket. The components of the icemaker are: inlet water pipe, water valve, solenoid vale, ice molder, ejector blades, thermostat, housing, and cover.

            Troubleshooting of Ice Maker Not working

                        First thing to look for is the shutoff arm. Normally while removing the ice cubes from the bucket the shutoff arm is set to the off position. Many times one forgets to put shutoff arm in on position after placing ice bucket back. This shall cause the icemaker with no power to operate. If icemaker does not work when shut off arm is on then one should check the inlet water system.

                        The most probable cause is that icemaker is not getting any cool water to make the ice cube. If there is no inlet water the icemaker shall not make any ice cube. The inlet water system consists of cold water supply pipe, saddle valve, filter, and solenoid controlled water inlet valve. Pipe/Filter clogging may disrupt water supply. In order to verify and service the inlet valve one has to unplug the refrigerator, remove the back access panel (see the refrigerator manual) and get access to the cold pipe and the inlet water valve that is connected to icemaker. Turn off the water supply at the saddle valve and disconnect the inlet solenoid valve from the inlet tube. Unplug the wires of the solenoid valve and check the resistance. An infinite resistance means the valve needs replacement. Clean the insides of the valve, pipe (see that there is no blockage), or use a new valve if needed. If the problem disappears then stop. Otherwise remove and check the icemaker.       

            Disassemble icemaker

                        Follow the manual instructions to remove and disassemble the icemaker. 

Check the thermostat, heater, Ejector blades, and the wiring harness. If problem exists with any part clean the system, replace defective parts and assemble. If icemaker works stop. Otherwise call an authorized technician/ repair shop. .
